Is a License or Registration required to ride these Electric Bicycles and Tricycles?
No. As long as the power output rating of the motors does not exceed 200 watts and the vehicle has pedals - then no license or registration is required. In addition, you must however wear a good quality and properly fitted bicycle helmet. Under current Australian Road Laws these electric bicycles and tricycles are considered to be 'normal' pedal bicycles.
How do I re-charge the batteries?
Each vehicle (bike, scooter, etc) comes with it's own 'Australian Approved' 240 volt battery charger. This is plugged into any standard 10 amp household power point.
What does the numbers on the batteries mean?
All our vehicles (bike, scooter, etc) are powered by brushless high capacity DC motors. In the specifications, you will see numbers like 24VDC/50AH. The first set of numbers tell you the DC voltage the motor operates at. In this example its a 24 volt DC motor. The second number is the important one, this tells you the capacity of the batteries. In this example the batteries have 50 amp hours capacity (that is, the battery can deliver 50 amps for 1 hour). The higher this number the better.
How long does it take to re-charge the batteries?
This is a difficult question because it depends on state of exhaustion of the battery, the size/capacity of your charger and the overall age of your battery. Typically, if the battery is totally flat and re-charge times quoted are about 6-8 hrs. Then, if about half flat then about 3-4 hrs will be required. It is best to re-charge overnight and regularly to maximise the life of your batteries.
When should I re-charge batteries?
We recommend you re-charge batteries after each use or at least when the 'battery status indicator' shows 'half full' or less.
Do the batteries re-charge during riding?
No. Re-charging is only effected via the supplied battery charger.
How far will the electric vehicle travel between re-charges?
There are many variables that affect the range between re-charges such as weight of rider, type of terrain, number of stop/starts, riding speed, amount of pedal assistance, temperature, motor size, battery size etc. Our specifications give typical maximum ranges for each vehicle. Distance will vary greatly from rider to rider, situation to situation.
How many re-charges will the batteries sustain?
Tests have indicated that batteries will take approximately 400-500 re-charges from flat, 800-1000 from half flat, and 1600-2000 from quarter flat. Note, battery quality and life will vary greatly depending on use and weather conditions (temperature).
Can the bicycles be ridden as a "normal bike"?
Yes. The choice is yours between battery power, pedal power or a combination of both.
What 'Warranties' apply:
All electric vehicles (bicycles, scooters, buggies, and trolleys) sold by Australian Electric Vehicles are covered by a full 12 month warranty and a 3 month warranty on the battery. Warranty period commences on date of purchase.
What is the available spare parts?
A full range of spare parts and accessories are available for the entire range of electric vehicles, with most held in stock.
What maintenance is involved?
There is very little routine/ongoing maintenance required with your electric vehicle's electrical components other than re-charging batteries. It is advised to keep vehicle clean at all times. Under normal use, the electric motor doesn't need adjustment and maintenance except that its outer surface needs cleaning at regular intervals. Mechanical components will of course require normal 'bicycle' maintenance. Consult your Supplier for advice.
